The Norrköping Symphony Orchestra has the reputation of being one of the most exciting orchestras in Scandinavia. German conductor Karl-Heinz Steffens is Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor since the season of 2020-2021. Norrköping Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1912 and is today comprised of 85 musicians. Through its long and rich history it maintains a special place in the region’s cultural life. The orchestra’s main repertoire consists of the great romantic era composers from Beethoven to Mahler but it is just as important to perform 20th century music and Swedish/Nordic music. The orchestra’s two principal venues are The Louis De Geer Concert Hall in Norrköping, and the Crusell Concert Hall in Linköping.

The Allan Pettersson Project started in 2013.In association with conductor Christian Lindberg and BIS Records, the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra aim to perform and record all symphonies and other major works by the Swedish composer Allan Pettersson.

In 2023 we have initiated a new project with chief conductor Karl-Heinz Steffens, focusing on Nordic composers, starting with Symphony no. 1 and no. 2 by Norwegian composer Christian Sinding.

The Norrköping Symphony Orchestra was the first orchestra ever to win two Swedish Grammys in two different categories: one for Pettersson's Ninth Symphony and one for the album Hommage with Sven-Bertil Taube. We were also nominated in the category "Children's Album of the Year" with Ayla Kabaca and 12 songs about the months. Since then, the orchestra has been nominated for Grammys several years in a row.

In 2018, the recording of the House of Cards Symphony was released, with music from the famous TV series. In 2019, Johan Dalene debuted on cd with Tchaikovsky's and Barber's violin concertos together with Norrköping Symphony Orchestra. In the same year, the album TRAUMA was released with Grammy-nominated artist Jenny Wilson.

In 2021, BIS Records released an album featuring Norrköping Symphony Orchestra's harpist Delphine Constantin-Reznik. It is the first cd recording of the recently rediscovered romantic Swedish harpist and composer Anton Edvard Pratté (1796-1875). The album also includes his grand concerto for harp with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Daniela Musca.
